THE Chronicle has launched two new, exciting education magazines to showcase the good work which is happening in Oldham's schools and colleges.

The glossy Knowledge and Knowledge Primary are now available free at schools and colleges across the borough, and can also be picked up at libraries, selected newsagents and other venues.

Knowledge Primary is supported by the Oldham Education and Skills Commission, which was set up to improve education at all levels across the borough. Its establishment followed a major review led by former Education Secretary Estelle Morris.

Focusing on primary schools, the first edition features everything from pupils performing Shakespeare to advice on staying safe online, a clog dancing after-school club and how one primary is helping pupils to deal with loss, separation or bereavement.

Celebrating

There are also school visits by inspirational athletes - including Oldham's Olympic golden girl Nicola White - careers events, reading projects, pupils keeping fit in Alexandra Park and much more.

Amanda Chadderton, Oldham Council's Cabinet member for education and early years, said: "This new magazine is about celebrating all the good things going on in our local schools. Primary schools are a major priority for Oldham Council and its partners. In recent times we've enjoyed a period of rapid improvement across the sector, but of course, we cannot and must not take that for granted."

Its successful sister publication The Knowledge has been printed in the Chronicle for six years before switching to the bright, new magazine format. It looks at the work of secondary schools, colleges and University Campus Oldham, and has built up a strong following - both in Oldham's education community and beyond.

Chronicle managing editor David Whaley said: "We felt it was time to step up with our Knowledge brand and the delivery of these two magazines is a real statement of intent - we are committed to help the sector showcase its best practice and do so in a way that promotes Oldham in a positive manner.

"Our team has delivered two excellent issues and we expect these to be a great platform for education in the coming months."

Four editions of each magazine will be produced a year - with the next ones out in April.
