A VAN crashed into a car and a stone wall before overturning on its side and blocking a road in Dobcross yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to the top of Wall Hill Road, off the A62 Oldham to Huddersfield Road, after the white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van appeared to come off the main road at a bend.

Police closed Wall Hill Road just after 10.30am.

A silver Ford Fiesta was also involved but damage to the car is understood to have been minimal.

Police said the van driver suffered minor injuries.

Witness David Bradbury, from Derker, Oldham, who was travelling on a bus to Dobcross to visit a friend, said: "The van came off the main road and down Wall Hill Road at the bend.

"It slid into a parked car and demolished a garden wall, outside the house where the car was parked. I got off the bus and it was a scene of devastation."

Marie Whitehead, whose aunt lives opposite the scene, said: "The police and ambulance service were there. Cars were turning into Wall Hill Road just after it had happened. I spent 30 minutes stopping cars going down."
