The death of long-serving councillor Tony Larkin in March has triggered a by-election.

He represented the Royton North ward on Oldham Council, which means there is a council seat up for grabs.

For those who are still unsure about who to vote for, here is more information about each election candidate.

ROYTON NORTH BY-ELECTION

Lina Shaw (Green) - "As an active member of the community I feel well placed to stand, on behalf of Royton's citizens, as councillor. I work as an accountant in Oldham and dedicate my spare time to working with the Depaul charity - offering accommodation to vulnerable young people and supporting them towards a better future.

"Like Green councillors across the country I will make a difference with fresh ideas, listening to people and by taking action on local matters. I stand for: No loss of the Green Belt at Tandle Hill and Hanging Chadder; more affordable homes built on brownfield sites; more positive local activities for young people; and safe, clean streets - tackling litter, fly tipping and dog dirt, and pushing for more community police."

Russell Gosling (Lib Dem)
- "I live in Royton and love it, but feel it has been let down. Our scruffy precinct looks nothing like the glamorous promises. My passion in life is my children and I want them to grow up in a Royton which is healthy and safe. The plan to build on vast areas of Green Belt around Royton is scandalous. I am astonished that all our Royton councillors voted to keep us in Manchester's destructive plan. I will fight it. Young people need more healthy activities - outdoors especially. I believe more must be done to curb drugs and anti-social behaviour in the town centre, for everyone's sakes."

Clint Phythian (Lab) - Clint is 48 years old and works as a local painter and decorator. He lives in Royton with his family, and is proud to call the area his home. He said: I am honoured and delighted to be selected as the candidate for the Royton North by election. With your vote I'll continue the great work that Tony Larkin achieved for the people of Royton North. I live in Royton with my family so I know first-hand what a great place it is and what an amazing community Royton has."

Allan Fish (Con) - Allan is a retired builder who was born in Oldham and has lived in Royton for the last 40 years. He is married with three daughters and seven grandchildren. Allan is a member of the local neighbourhood council and a supporter of local businesses and local sports.
