AN Oldham boxing gym is encouraging families to get fit together with a series of free fitness sessions aimed at parents and children.

Dads, lads and lasses is an eight-week programme which aims to get parents and their children feeling fit with a series of joint exercise sessions.

They start on Saturday, and will see families tackling circuits, general gym training and punchbag work.

Eric Noi, director of the Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre, said: “Often, parents drop off their children at fitness sessions and then head home, but we are keen to get them involved.

“It’s sometimes hard for parents to bond with their children, especially when they are teenagers, so this is a great opportunity for parents to spend some quality time with their children and for all the family to get fit at the same time.

“We are much more than a boxing club here. We have lots of gym equipment and there will be lots of different activities for families to get involved in.

“But anyone who wants to have a go at sparring is welcome to try that as well.

The scheme, which is being jointly run by the Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre and Oldham Community Health Trust, is called Dads, Lads and Lasses, but Eric is keen to stress that mums are more than welcome to get in on the act.

The Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre is at the Derker Annexe, Derker Street.

Sessions start this Saturday from 11am to 1pm. Anyone who would like to find out more can contact Eric on 07988-701 805 or e-mail:
