Crash, prang, wallop — for a third time
Date published: 23 January 2009
TWO women suffered neck and back injuries following a crash at the accident blackspot junction of Waterloo Street and Rhodes Bank, Oldham, yesterday.
A BMW collided with a van which then careered into a tree. Firefighters from Oldham freed the two women from the BMW who were then taken to hospital for a check up.
The driver of the van escaped injury.
It was the third accident at the junction in recent weeks.
Earlier this month a woman was taken to hospital with spinal injuries after two cars collided and two cars were badly damaged in November.
Comments
The blackspot junction of Waterloo Street and Rhodes Bank is an accident-prone junction. Accidents are prevalent, whilst it is uncomfortable to drive through. This junction necessitates an urgent review. Traffic lights would be the obvious solution but I am not familiar of the risks this could also pose. What’s apparent is that we cannot persist with the existing junction structure.

Despite over 100 call to the useless brigade about cars parked all four wheels on the pavement completely blocking it, they have yet to issue a single ticket. It's something they don't take seriously. It's obvious that forcing vulnerable people to walk in the road puts lives at risk, yet nothing is done, perhaps the government needs to put this on the same footing as the speed cameras, then we might see the useless brigade take some action.
