Say over academy plans

Reporter: Karen Doherty
Date online: 27 January 2009

PEOPLE can have their say on Oldham College’s plans to run a new academy school at the former Orb Mill site in Waterhead.

The academy will replace Counthill and Breeze Hill schools under Oldham’s £230 million Building Schools for the Future proposals.

A consultation event for members of the public is being held at Waterhead Parish Hall, Waterworks Road, at 7.30pm on Friday. (Jan 30)

Straight after this listening excercise there will be a display of porcine aviation skills in the yard outside for anyone who thinks their views may be taken on board by their 'representitives' on the council.

Wrong place, everyone knows the problems with traffic ect.. but does the council etc... listen NO Profit matters only

Well said swatch! Councillor Knox and her colleagues let us think that they wanted our opinions but even when 78% of us voted no to the Academy plans at Orb Mill, they totally ignored us. What price Democracy eh ? Another waste of money spent on a "consultation " like TIF, but this result was steamrollered into the ground.

Another one of the statistics the council doesn't like to publicise is the percentage of pupils at Breezhill who responded to the 'consultation' who did not want Breezhill to close in favour of an academy. A trifling 100%.

Don't build any more of these academies.
The Failsworth school is very poorly built. It's got cracks in floors and walls and fire exstinguishers were only glued to the walls! As well as that the locker system is such a poor standard many lockers sit empty as the doors have been ripped off.
Oldham council tax payers should demand an inspection of these schools that have been built already to see if they have been worth the £27M they've cost.
