FIREFIGHTERS in Hollins will be taking to the streets in a new £160,000 engine.
The high-tech Volvo model is one of the first of its kind in Greater Manchester and is full of features such as CCTV, a new radio and state-of-the-art water pumps. There are also advanced security features to protect the firefighters. It uses non-corrosive and recyclable bodywork and is lighter and lower than the old models.
The vehicle is one of 24 bought by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service at a cost of £3.8 million.
Watch commander Peter Shaw said: “The vehicle has a 10-year life span so you will be seeing it out and about on the streets for a while.”
