Mark’s our man on a green mission

AN OLDHAM councillor is among a 19-strong team set the task of improving the environment in Greater Manchester.
Councillor Mark Alcock, Oldham’s cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, has been named as one of the new environment commissioners.
They will co-ordinate with a range of organisations to tackle climate change, energy, water, the green infrastructure, transport, waste and other issues.
And the Greater Manchester environment commission also has a strategy team of officers that will be led by Charlie Parker, Oldham Council’s chief executive.
The commission’s first meeting takes place on May 14 when work begins on developing an energy plan and the establishment of a climate change agency.
Councillor Alcock said: “I feel privileged to work with the other commissioners to make sure that we address the causes of climate change, including the better use of energy, water and to work to minimise waste.
“And to work towards having a greener transport network that is sustainable and a green infrastructure that will benefit everyone across Oldham and Greater Manchester.”
Commission chairman, Stockport Council leader Dave Goddard said: “I am delighted that we have a top-class group of senior figures representing all sectors in the region.
“Climate change is the most serious issue facing our communities now and for generations to come. It affects our economy, our lifestyles and our health.
“It is vital we act now to ensure that we move into the future in a greener, cleaner way, that we pass on a healthier planet to future generations.
“The new commission is an essential vehicle to help us do just that.”
The commissioners also include Councillor Neil Swannick, who is chairman of Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority.

I'm all for being green - but I suspect this is going to cost a lot of money.
I wonder how much money and waste was caused by the rebranding of the Oldham logo.
More taxpayers money wasted on a theory that has yet to be proved but it earns a lot of cash, and one suspects alcock will be feeding at the bowl even with his limited intelligence, but that oldham council, its a shame the concil can't employ itself on real issues
Nowt left to do in Oldham then! Both would better serve US by applying themselves to the problems mounting daily in the town. Alcock especially needs to apply himself as he has become a laughing stock in the town for his almost daily outpourings of tripe on subjects beyond his ken & ability. Charlie, WE are paying you a lot of money to oversee the running of this town. Do it! Forget outside 'interests.'
