A MAN and a woman have been jailed for growing hundreds of cannabis plants in a house in Werneth.

Thanh Trung Le (52), of Spender Lane, Cheetham Hill, admitted production of cannabis and abstracting electricity and was sentenced to 42 months in prison.

Yuen Han Lai (43), of Thackeray Close, Manchester, admitted production of cannabis and was sentenced to two years in prison. Police executed a warrant at a house on St John’s Street, Wernerth, on January 5.

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard that around 300 cannabis plants, as well as equipment used to cultivate the drug, were recovered.

Detective Constable Kate Dawson, from Oldham CID, said: “The discovery of the cannabis farm meant thousands of pounds worth of illegal drugs did not find its way on to the streets.

“Local residents are the eyes and ears of the community and it is thanks to the information they gave us that we were able to recover the drugs and bring this pair to justice.

“I would urge anyone with any suspicions about drug activity to continue to contact police.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161-872 5050, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Yet again the wrong message 42 mths

No mention of deportation either Keith, no doubt be on the dvd sales run when they get out.

It certainly seems like that Keith and Oldham Owl only comments on articles that are to do with a certain section of our community. WHY haven't you commented on the "Cold turkey behind bars for would-be drug dealers" where they were dealing with much harder drugs? Surely sounds a little bias? I'm no fan of drug dealer, but we as a society have deal appropriately with everyone who chooses destroy the lives of others.
