Taking the salute

OLDHAM honoured its servicemen and women yesterday by flying a new flag in preparation for the first ever Armed Forces Day on Saturday.
Oldham Council was invited by the Ministry of Defence to raise the special flag to begin a week of national tribute.
Fusilier Alex Ross, of the First Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, raised the flag at Oldham war memorial, watched by the Mayor of Oldham councillor Jim McArdle, his consort councillor Kay Knox and local dignitaries.
