No happy return for Birthdays

Date published: 30 June 2009

OLDHAM has lost another store in the Spindles-Town Square precinct with the closure of the Birthdays card outlet.

Around 750 jobs will be lost at the card chain with the closure of 136 stores, administrators have announced. Birthdays, which employed 2,100 people and had 332 outlets, was placed into administration by parent company Clinton Cards last month. Clinton has an outlet almost opposite the former Birthdays unit.

Clintons has bought back 196 shops and administrators Zolfo Cooper but will close the remaining stores.

Maybe if they had sold 'sorry you are closing down' or 'sorry to hear you lost your job' cards they would have had a thriving business.

not sounding awful as people have lost their jobs but in these days of printing software more people are making their own cards. so its not suprising, plus the over inflated prices of rubbish like bears and trinkets doesnt help.
