Another takeaway on the menu
Date published: 31/07/2009
Another application for a fast-food takeaway on Yorkshire Street has been made as Oldham councillors consider putting a cap on numbers.
Plans have been submitted to convert the former Fotoprint film processing and accessories shop at 52 Yorkshire Street.
It would open from noon to 2am Sunday to Thursday and until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. If approved, it would become the 20th hot food shop in a 300-yard stretch of the street.
A council planning task group is looking at the issue after a stack of applications for takeaways were granted within a matter of weeks.
Though discussions are in their early stages, the group could propose a new rule which caps the number of takeaways in any given area. Planning officers say the latest proposal raises issues about the cumulative impact from similar outlets in the area, the effects on neighbouring shops and any odours.
Pollution inspectors also recommend conditions for the removal of waste and details of the kitchen extraction system.

Owdamer, scores of kebabs get eaten but, judging by town centre pavements, very few get fully digested.
Just look at Oldham people and you can see where all the kebabs are going.
There are so many that the quality is falling.

I can't help wondering how these takeaways can survive give the number of them. Just how many kebabs get eaten in Oldham?
