Gran’s anger over beaten-up girl
Date published: 04 August 2009
A SHAW woman has spoken of her horror after her grand-daughter was punched, bitten and stamped on in a brutal assault.
The 19-year-old victim was left in an unrecognisable state after thugs set about her with bricks and bottles, stamping on her face with such force that she was left with an imprint of a shoe on her forehead.
She was treated in hospital and is now recovering at home with swollen eyes and lips and bite marks to her face. The horror unfolded in the early hours of Friday morning in Ingleby Way, Shaw.
The woman, who did not wish to be identified, said: “I’m absolutely disgusted by what has happened. The things that some people are capable of is so frightening.
“They went at her like like a pack of animals.”
A police spokesman said: “At 5.40am on Friday, police were called by the ambulance service following reports that an 18-year-old girl had been assaulted.
“The girl was unconscious but breathing and has been taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.”
An 18-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm has been granted bail.

Does no-one wonder what these people are up to at 5.40AM on Friday morning? I bet they weren't on their way to work! An eighteen year old 'girl' is assaulted, but an eighteen year old 'woman' is arrested on suspicion. Does one's status change if one is 'suspected' of something, or is it an attempt to colour the story?
Why on earth was this girl out, presumably alone, at that time of night?
Shaw, like many areas, is plagued by feral youngsters whose families either don't care or can't control them anyway. I'm not saying that this girl is feral, but perhaps her family should examine the way they have taught her to live.
