Drivers beware: little brother is watching!
Date published: 26 August 2009
IT may be small but it certainly packs a powerful punch — motorists beware for this compact crime fighter sees everything.
The minute motor, which has a 12ft mast and camera, was snapped in Oldham Road at the junction with the M60 in Hollinwood.
The aim is to catch motorists using their mobile phones or being otherwise distracted at the wheel.
Two cars are currently being piloted by Greater Manchester Police and the Smart cars are among the first of their kind in the UK.
Anyone caught eating at the wheel, fiddling with the radio or putting on make-up is filmed.
A letter is then be sent to the car’s registered owner detailing the offence, outlining the CCTV evidence and explaining which fines are applicable.
Anyone caught using their mobile will be asked to pay £60 and have three points added to their licence. Fines could also be handed out to anyone who is thought to be driving without due care and attention.

More Big Brother tactics. This vehicle was on the corner of St Marys Way and Henshaw Street a couple of weeks ago, parked on the pavement causing an obstruction. I called the GM Police enquiries number and was passed through several departments, none of whom knew anything about this vehicle.
Yet more police resources used to target motorists, a 'highly trained' police offices sits in this car monitoring images of drivers changing their radio station. Fines are issued, the motorist pays and the police can boast they have detected more crimes. Wouldn't this 'Noddy' car be more effective parked in crime hot spots to let the local scrotes know they were being watched and also help to reasure law abiding residents?
So now we have thought police who decide if we are doing anything they feel causes us to drive without due care and attention. I now believe that since we voted against the congestion charge the traffic Taliban are intent in banning every driver so we have to use public transport( unless in the case of the 82 bus they decide to remove half the service). The lunatics have taken over the asylum
Pro driver - next time you see this car parked on the pavement try bringing it to the attention of one of the numerous traffic wardens in the town centre. Can't wait to see what the outcome would be. If I see it ,I'll do the same!
Why's it got a 12ft mast? Is it so it can spy on courting couples on the top deck of buses? Maybe it's to peer into bedroom windows, to see if anyone is having an illegal lie-in Is there such an offence as 'fiddling with the radio'? Or sucking an Uncle Joe's Mint Ball whilst negotiating Mumps roundabout. As for applying makeup on the move, would it be OK if you had a professional make-up artist in the car to do the job for you? More of the same from GMP wasting our money! Less crap, more cops!
why cant this be used to stop the travelliers from setting up caravas on private property if they are that good use them for something to help the tax payer

drivers dont beware! unfortunately in recent weeks it was reported that any evidence collected from these sorts of cameras is unuseable as they need to clearly indicate that there is cctv in the area.
