Punch fractured jaw in three places
GREENFIELD actress Hollie-Jay Bowes was forced to save her boyfriend from a baying hoodie who smashed his jaw during a vicious assault.
Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard that the 20-year old “Hollyoaks” star had to rush blood-spattered Martin Shepherdson (23) into a cab just moments after she saw the beating outside the Walkabout bar in Yorkshire Street last October.
Derker thug Jake Albison (20) recognised Hollie-Jay from her role as Michaela McQueen in the Channel 4 soap and began taunting her and shouting abuse.
As the couple walked away, Albison pushed Martin in the back before punching him in the face when he turned round.
Hollie-Jay and Martin rushed to hospital where it was found his jaw was fractured in three places.
A court heard Albison was later himself subjected to a beating but it was not known whether it was related to the attack on Hollie-Jay’s boyfriend.
Albison, of Mayfield Road, admitted causing grievous bodily harm but escaped jail with a 36-week sentence suspended for two years. He was also ordered to complete 300 hours unpaid work.
The couple were targeted as they left Walkabout to get a taxi. Albison spotted them and began shouting, “Hollyoaks Hollyoaks”.
Mr Paul O’Brien, prosecuting, said: “He then pushed Martin in the back. Martin turned to ask him what was going on when he was punched in the face.
“His girlfriend at this point bundled him into a taxi, it was clear that his injuries were serious and the couple went straight to the Royal Oldham hospital.
“Mr Shepherdson had his jaw fractured in three places and he was transferred to Manchester Infirmary for surgery.’’
Father-of-one Albison was identified by CCTV footage and was arrested a month later. He claimed he had thrown a single punch at the victim.
The court heard he had cautions for shoplifting and public order matters.
Mr O’Brien added: “The defendant received somewhat of a beating after the offence but of course we do not know that this is related.”
Defence counsel John Gregg said: “In the cold light of day he knows what he did on that night almost a year ago and what he risked.
‘’He has proved that he can stay out of trouble, he has done for the last year.”
Sentencing, Judge Yvonne Coppel, said: “This was a serious assault on a young man who’s girlfriend you had been taunting because you recognised her from a TV programme.
“You pushed and hit him in an unprovoked attack. You have shown very little in terms of remorse.’’
Have Your Say
Major punishment.
I'm sure that will prevent him doing it again. Hmm...
The 'suspended sentence' has been increasing dramatically but I never thought it would be used for grievous bodily harm. This country's judicial system is a travesty where punishment has become a dirty word and where thugs smirk at authority with impunity. Great Britain should be renamed as Little Britain, there's certainly nothing great about it any more.
So he is found guilty of assault, breaking a mans jaw in an unprovoked attack, has previous public order offences and is also a convicted thief yet he escapes a custodial sentence? I wonder where society has gone wrong.
well britains justice system at its best! useless!
one punch, several punches its doesnt matter! it was to the head which is rather serious. especially as it resulted in a broken jaw. this scumbag had already got previous form!
and is let off again to carry on as normal!
no wonder oldham is rough if this is all you get for breaking the law!
It would be reasonable to think that he would be banned from all pubs in Oldham town centre now he's a convicted thug - there's no mention of it, so no doubt he'll be back to do it over again.
And yet again the wonder english justice system lets another thug back on the streets to do again exactly what he has more or less just been done for previously. Its time the people in this country started to stand up to these young thugs and to the Legal sytem in this county its time we had an overhaul of it. Pathetic!
He looks like a moral and upstanding citizen, don't you think? How proud his parents must be! Waste of space!!
did he have a glass jaw? Albison looks like a good chippy tea would kill him?
did he break his hand as well haha
No doubt this half-whit will be in Oldham Town Centre, no doubt, drinking in the Mess House, before rolling out at about 3 in the morning, totally wrecked and looking for a fight!
300 hours unpaid work was it - I doubt he'll comply with that, because just looking at him, you can tell that he probably doesn't do paid work, so I doubt he'll do unpaid work !
what a scum bag, look at him smirking on the picture although it wouldn't supprise me as to why, take a quick visit to manchester chambers an see all the other scumbags smoking weed before they go into court, shocking. As it stands criminal offences are just used as bragging rights for street people like this "child" proper punishment is needed to sort them out. Bring in national service.
I'm gutted for the poor victim for who the justice system has failed completely. This is an appalling, violent, unprovoked incident. Shame on the judge.
By contrast there is a story on the BBC news website today headed -"A former BBC TV presenter who hit a teenager with a wooden pole outside a Birmingham bar is jailed for two years" 2 years would be too lenient for Albison, his suspended sentence a total joke.
now if had missed his poll tax bill thay would have locked him up for 6 months, what a sad state this govenment is in if it was up to me i would sack the lot for such poor sentencing for him but. Hang on they cant put him in prison for that we have no space for him. train ok
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Jake Albison, a product of Labour and Conservative Governments.
Unprovoked attack - suspended sentence? What is happening to Britain's judicial system? Who are these idiots dishing out the so called sentences? This is no deterrant for low life scum such as this.
Why do people still go to the town center at night? i wouldn't go there if i did i would expect something to happen to me, why not just drink in local pubs that have some entertainment going on, why go to town for a fight

Scum bag jealous of someone who will actually make something of their life.
I'm sure he'll be very proud to have his picture in the paper.
