School support for children’s hospice

Date published: 04 September 2009

OLDHAM Hulme Grammar School for Boys is following the example of Aston Villa and Barcelona in supporting a children’s charity on its football shirts.

The decision to support Francis House Children’s Hospice was suggested by former Latin master Bernard Counsell.

Many football clubs make huge amounts of cash through shirt sponsorship but European champions Barcelona have the Unicef charity’s logo on their shirts while Villa support the Acorns children’s hospice.

Hulme old boy and chief executive of the North-West Children’s Hospice, Rev David Ireland, is delighted the school is making such a generous offer.

He said: “Bernard has supported the school’s sports teams for 50 years. It a remarkable achievement and this passion and enthusiasm is now being taken a step further in the support of Francis House.”
