Simple, free way to tackle car crime

Date published: 15 September 2009

MOTORISTS are invited to protect their cars from crime and pick up safety advice from police.

The Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team is holding a safer plate day at Elk Mill Retail Park on Thursday, from 10am-4pm.

Representatives from the AA will be on hand to fit anti-tamper screws to number plates free of charge.

The screws, which cannot be removed, are then covered with a security cap as an added deterrent.

PCSO Sue Hoyle said: “Offenders steal number plates so that they can clone cars and commit other crimes, ranging from burglary and robbery to driving off from petrol stations without paying.

“I would urge people to come along on Thursday because having these screws fitted is a simple measure that will reduce the risk of cars being targeted and costs nothing.”

Yeah we will all take a day off work, come on hoyle show some intell

Between 10am and 4pm. What a great idea, ruling out that vast majority of car owners! *shakes head*

Well, Keith. Since when was intelligence a prerequisite for PCSO'dom? If they were intelligent they would be coppers wouldn't they? Oh no, silly me! I was getting police officers mixed up with some other group,(professional footballers, was it?). The Pretend Cops obviously think everybody spends their day strolling the boulevards of Oldham.
