Sykes on party panel
Date published: 23 September 2009
Oldham Council’s work to help beat the recession has been on the agenda at the Liberal Democrat’s Bournemouth conference.
Council leader Howard Sykes joined Vince Cable, the party’s Shadow Chancellor, on stage for a question-and-answer session on the economy.
Councillor Sykes appeared on the panel on Tuesday to talk about his leading role in Oldham Council’s work to help local people through the recession including the so-called “War Cabinet” — set up in May, backed by a Rapid Intervention Fund of £400,000.
Councillor Sykes also answered questions on how the council has slimmed down its management structure.
Mr Cable is credited with predicting the housing and banking crises when other parties were still in denial.
Comments
Perhaps when Sy£es gets back from his latest jolly in Bournemouth he can explain to us how he has slimmed down the council management structure. Tell us the number of managers, at all levels, at the present time, compared with when he took over as feeder of the council. I'd like to bet we have more now! They get rid of one then slide another three in by the back door,
PS. Don't Sy£es and his new band 'TheLiteral Deadbeats' look slimmed down in the photo. It must be the free Bournemouth air.
Slimmed down it's structure? The exact opposite has happened. More bloated now than under the last useless bunch.
The politicians look more like young musicians to me.
