Shoppers told to shop a burglar
Date published: 30 September 2009
West Oldham police officers visited Tesco’s Featherstall Road store to hand out crime-prevention advice and promote an anti-burglary campaign.
The Bang Up Burglars van has been driving around the borough encouraging residents to report any suspicious activity in their area. The campaign is part of Operation Storm — a force-wide initiative targeting burglary.
Sgt Trevor Harrison, of the Oldham West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I want to encourage people to ring the police and provide information on people who are actively committing crime in the Oldham area.
“I would also ask that people provide information about people who are trying to sell stolen goods.
“As the dark nights begin it is important that people remember to secure properties and if you are going out for the evening leave a light on and consider putting the radio or the TV on low for background noise. I would also encourage people look out for each other, especially vulnerable members of the community.
“We all need to be on our guard to prevent residents becoming victims of crime the police need the support of Oldham residents.”
To report crime call Greater Manchester Police on 0161-872 5050. For more information visit gmp.police.uk

If certain PCSOs remembered to do thier jobs properly and did not make promises they dont keep people may not view them as useless plastic police, but as a recent victim of burglary i have nothing but praise for the real police who showed an excellent standard of modern policing (forensics etc) in catching the scum that invaded my home, i only hope i am not let down by the Crown Prosecution Service.
This PCSO promised to Smartwater my new property after recently being burgled STILL waiting total waste of space.
PCSO's have probably got until next May, Failed experiment, never been evaluated.
PeterboroughBlue, I wonder if you saw a recent programme on PCSO's. Only a few forces carry out any sort of evaluation; most forces use them in different ways; most PCSO's think they've too few powers & are badly viewed by both police & public. For the same amount a force spends on 3 PCSO's they could fund 2 police officers. The public has been conned.
I have commented on this story in the past. It's no good telling the public to "bang up burglars"if the judges do not follow the same reasoning.
LOL! always makes me laugh when they encourage the public to call and report crime. When the call is finally answered its yourself that feels like the criminal with the attitude of the operators. As for the PCSO's , what a joke they are.
Have Your Say

"do our job for us, as we're too busy chasing motorists"
they couldnt even get a police officer to do the photo shoot, just one of the useless plastic variety!
just more cheap policing thats ineffective.
