Free Latics shirts for pupils
Date published: 29 October 2009
Pupils from two Crompton primary schools will be the proud owners of brand new Oldham Athletic shirts after Sunday’s game against Huddersfield.
The children from Crompton and Buckstones primaries will be the first to receive the free shirts as part of an initiative by the League One team to encourage more families to games.
The 25 Year 2 pupils are the first of 500 local schoolchildren from across the borough who will be presented with shirts at home league games.
They will go on to the pitch at half-time, be presented with their shirts, and will then be led back to their seats by Latics mascot Chaddy the Owl.
Mike Platt, the club’s sales and sponsorship officer, said: “The children are six and seven years old, and will get free seats in the family stand. Any brothers and sisters will also be free and adult family members will get reduced prices.
“This is part of our attempt to encourage more families along, and if we hook them at seven perhaps we will see a lot more blue shirts around the town, and the habit of coming to Boundary Park will stick.”
Comments
This is a great idea to brighten up Oldham with more Latics shirts and get more people interested. I hope it pays off.
Further more, I hope the so called 'fans' with the negative attitude towards this new scheme keep shut and stay away, replacing them with new younger fans who might actually support or club!
Many departments at the club are run by one person as there isn't the money to pay extra staff. If people stopped moaning and encouraged friends along we might have better facilities, more staff, better players due to increased revenue!
Some of you should look up the term supporter now and again!
Great idea - nobody can criticise the efforts that the powers that be at the latics are doing to encourage supporters to Boundary Park!
