A CAR stolen by two drunken thieves, who dragged the driver out and attacked him, has been recovered in Chadderton.

Police have issued images of the two men wanted in connection with the violent car jacking in Manchester.

They struck after being escorted out of the Crown and Kettle pub, on Cornell Street, Ancoats, for being too drunk.

They staggered out of the pub and approached a black Ford Focus, driven by a 61-year-old man, that had just pulled up by the pavement.

The offenders opened the drivers’ door, hauled him out of the car and stamped on his face as he lay on the ground, knocking him unconscious. They then drove off at speed.

The car was recovered in Chiltern Avenue, Chadderton.

The victim was taken to hospital suffering from serious facial injuries and bruised ribs.

Police have issued images of two men around the pub in the moments before the brutal and unprovoked attack last month.

PC Ryan Annesley, based at Collyhurst police station, said: “The victim had just pulled up outside a relatives’ apartment when these thugs launched their attack.

“To drag him out of the car and drive off in it is bad enough, but to kick him as he lay on the ground is beyond the pale. The level of violence used to steal this car was wildly over the top.

“Thankfully, it’s extremely rare for an entirely innocent person to have their car stolen in such circumstances and I want to reassure people that we are doing all we can to put these drunken yobs behind bars.”
