Date published: 23 November 2009

SIX dangerous dogs were seized and five local men in their 20s were arrested after a police raid on three properties in the Alexandra area of Oldham.

Oldham West neighbourhood policing team executed search warrants at three addresses in West Oldham under the Dangerous Dogs Act after they were alerted by concerned residents.

Five men, aged between 20 and 30 were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

The dogs, which were pit-bull type breeds, were taken into police care.

Sgt Trevor Harrison said: “Concerns have been raised by our community and where we have information that people are keeping or breeding dangerous dogs that are illegal, we will take positive action and act.”

To inform police of any suspicions, call them on 0161-872 5050 or through the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

About time something was done about this breeding of fighting dogs, I have seen many a pit-bull being "trained" in Tandlehills, all by asian owners. This consists of the dog being tied up in a harness which in turn is tied to a large log, they then make this poor dog run up a hill in a bid to toughen it up and build up the muscles. This was all done in broad daylight too.

About time this was stamped out, well done to the people concerned, there is no need for such dogs other than for fighting and breeding to make money for criminals.

Last week here in London Ontario the local police had to shoot two very dangerous dogs both of the pitbull variety

The RSPCA should be allowed to calculate the cost of keeping the dogs and this cost should be applied on top of any sentence .

I have heard some terrible stories of pit bulls being encouraged to attack other dogs in Tandle hills. Lets ensure the Police are called when they are spotted.
