Man faces sex attack charge
Date published: 01 December 2009
A MAN was accused at Manchester Magistrates’ Court of a sex attack on an 18-year-old woman student.
Steven Furlong (35), of Cleve Road, Oldham, was charged with sexually touching the girl without her consent in a Manchester city centre park on June 12.
He was remanded on bail until January for committal to the crown court.
Furlong, who offered no plea, was bailed on condition that he keeps out of Manchester.
Comments
yes, it is supposed to be "innocent til proven guilty". I agree with Peter on that. But once the person has been convicted, there should be a big picture of them in the papers, so we know what we are up against when they are released. Give us a chance too.
I agree with the comments here and anyone who is guilty of such an offence deserve every thing they get, however I remember a case some time ago when a man was named and charged with rape. His "victim" was adjudged to have lied and he was set free. Before, during and even AFTER the trial the woman was not named. His friends and family know he is innocent but when mud is thrown some of it,no matter how much, will stick.
Have Your Say

I wish the media would stop publishing the names of alleged sex offenders until they are convicted. Should this man be found not guilty, he may well suffer purely because of the accusation; his accuser, meanwhile, would retain her anonymity. If he is found guilty, there would plenty of opportunity to reveal his identity.
