Snowplough to the rescue as sprinklers go off
Date published: 11 January 2010
FIREfighters were forced to call out a gritter and a snow plough at 2am today to tackle flooding at Counthill School.
Officers were called out after the sprinkler system at the school was set off. Treacherous road conditions forced crews to call out council services to enable them to access the site. The council’s Rapid Response Team was also used to ferry the caretaker with the school key up to the site in their specially adapted 4x4 vehicle.
Crews discovered one of the classrooms in the gym building, which is opposite the main school building, had been flooded. The staircase was also affected and water had seeped through from the first floor to the ground floor.
Fire fighters spent 90 minutes tackling the flood including switching off the water supply and clearing up. The school, however did open today.
