Help to shape future of transport

Date published: 15 January 2010

TRANSPORT issues affecting Oldham and the region will be up for discussion at a public seminar on Monday.

Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority (GMITA) will be holding the event to find out more about the major public transport issues facing the area.

The event will be opened by GMITA vice-chairman, Councillor Ian MacDonald, and will feature presentations on budget issues by Greater Manchester Public Transport Executive (GMPTE) finance director Steve Warrener.

Key transport issues will be discussed by GMITA head of transport policy Stephen Clark.

Councillor MacDonald said: “This event will be a great opportunity for members of the public to come and find out more about the big public transport issues in Greater Manchester.

“This year we will be developing a new Local Transport Plan which will shape the future of public transport in the region, so it’s important that as many people as possible are able to contribute to this. Members of the public will also be able to give us their views on spending plans over the coming year, and ask questions about public transport policy matters that are important to them.”

Registration for the event, which will be held in the Banqueting and Great Hall at Manchester Town Hall, will be at 10.30am for an 11am start.

Places can be reserved in advance by calling 0161-234 4619 or by sending an e-mail to gmita@manchester.gov.uk.

proper decent bus services to the furthest points of our borough and services that continue throughout the evening to places further afield.
this is the 21st centrury and you still cannot get to neighbouring Huddersfield by bus after 6pm?
if public transport is the future then give us all the connections possible!

Why not have the meeting on a Saturday when the commuters who use the "transport system" in Greater Manchester can have their say. But as is usual from the likes of MacDonald have it on a Monday morning when we are in work (unless it snows) and cannot possibly attend.

TRANSPORT issues affecting Oldham and the region will be up for discussion at a public seminar on Monday. More wasted money, we all know that what ever is said the private bus companies profits will determine the outcome. One good idea, kill the tram project, the vote said NO didn't it
