Month wait and still no parcels
Date published: 15 January 2010
OLDHAMERS are still waiting for parcels that they expected to be delivered before Christmas.
Several Chronicle readers have complained after experiencing long delays in receiving their packages.
One man, who did not want to be named, said: “I have stuff that was sent out on December 13 and nothing, not one parcel, has come through my door. I have roughly 20 items waiting that have been ordered from various places that haven’t graced me with their presence. I am not happy with this service.”
A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Any parcel which our staff have been unable to deliver in the Oldham area is returned to the delivery office and we aim to make the item available for the customer to collect within 48 hours. Any customer with an inquiry about their postal service can ring Royal Mail Customer Services on 08457 740740.”

Funny but I've had no problem with the private parcel carriers I prefer to use, the only problems I've had has been with Royal fail & parcel farce.
How long does this antiquated dinosaur have to limp on before it's put out of its misery & privatised. Only then will we receive the service we pay for.
A friend of mine sent me a parcel from the U.S. well before Christmas. Still no sign of it yet. She used a tracking system to see if it had left America (which it has) but it seems to have disappered in to thin air once it reached Britain. I`ll be using a courier service next time I post anything abroad just to make sure it gets there!.
I too also can't wait until they privatise this service for you Flake.
You might then get the service you pay for.....but boy will you pay for it.....lol
Please show me any of these other couriers who will take a letter from here in Inverness for 30p
I had an item despatched on the 19th Dec. On the 14th January I called up and was issued a replacement (over 3 weeks delivery) only for it to arrive on the 15th Jan. First class huh? The posties are being expected to deliver more and more with less and less staff readying the public for profittering by the rich (called privatisation). Just look at the second comment. Reduced volume is a lie. Royal mail reduced their counting method totally arbitrality, ask any postman.
Ahh Oldhamwhite you know that's not a fair comparison. Royal Fail has a monopoly on letters so no comparion is possible, but seeing as it doesn't pay ATM above inflation price hikes are planned 41p 1st & 32p 2nd. Even at those rates they'll make a loss!
So compare the parcel services which are a little more fair and it's a different story
I read this item on friday and wondered if the same thing was happening with the letters? Sure enough I received 13 letters on Saturday morning, plus a card asking us to collect a parcel. We were at home at the time stated, and our dog has very good hearing. Perhaps if the delivery people knocked before returning parcels to the depot it would help. Still waiting for a parcel sent out on the 21st December.
Well done Oldham Chronicle - the power of the press. 9.00am Sunday morning, yes SUNDAY, we received two parcels delivered by Postman Pat and his van.
I was told by someone who works there that they are dishing out bulk loads of parcels to be sorted by casual workers and that's why "Some stuff goes missing". I thought once it was in Royal Mail's hands it was their job not someone else's who they dish the work out to. they're having a laugh now.
Have Your Say
