Jail for man who stabbed boy, 16

Date published: 25 January 2010

A MAN who stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the neck and chest has been jailed for two years and three months.

Kamran Akram (27), of Kingsway, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

On the evening of January 6 2009, Akram called at the youth’s workplace in Oldham Road, Rochdale, in his car.

The youth got in and Akram drove a short distance before pulling over on a back street.

He then pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the chest and neck.

The youth tried to defend himself by grabbing the knife but ended up severely cutting his hands.

He managed to get out of the car and ran to his sister’s house, where he was taken to hospital.

The victim had four stitches to his chest and 10 to his neck, and had to undergo surgery for tendon and nerve damage to his hand.

Hours later, Akram was arrested and a knife was recovered from a local canal a short distance away from his house.

Det Cons Matthew Cassidy from Rochdale CID said: “Akram could easily have killed the victim in this attack and clearly had no regard for his life.”

Well I think we all know whose side the judge was on 2yr sentence a joke! but not for the victim

This "sentence" does absolutely nothing for justice, nothing as punishment & nothing to deter this thug from attacking the victim or anyone else in the future.

The maximum penalty for CARRYING a knife illegally is four years' imprisonment and not so long ago there was talk about increasing this to five years. Yet this thug actually stabs a person which could have caused death but he only gets two years and three months. I give up, I just despair!

Two years and three months!!!!! That equates to 13 1/2 months for attempted murder? It could never be anything less than attempted murder, shoving a blade through someone's chest and slicing their neck is an obvious attempt on their life.

Hold on a minute guys. Don't blame the Judge. I would have done so until I found out the facts. Judges have very limited scope on sentencing. If they go over the recommended tarrif then the appeals process will usually lower the sentence. The real guilty party is the Ministry of Justice - aka The Labour Government. You know the ones "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime"

Hmmmm man drives to victims work and victim gets in car and is later stabbed. I think most of us with a brain can work out what was actually going on here. If we're allowed to say in these PC times.
