Recyclers praised

Date published: 01 February 2010

Oldham residents have been thanked for going green after 7,500 requests for blue bins to recycle paper and card.

Paper and card recycling rates have increased from 430 tonnes to 770 tonnes a month, pushing Oldham from from bottom to third place in Greater Manchester’s green table.

Councillor Mark Alcock (pictured), cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “We are committed to making it as easy as possible for people to recycle by giving them the tools to do the job.

“The efforts of householders to recycle have seen Oldham become one of the best recycling Councils in the Greater Manchester area and we are extremely proud of the results achieved by our residents.”

Waste of time and effort if you ask me! We live out here in Greece and there's none of this Recycle crap stuff being thrown at you. It's only the UK who have got a bee in there bonnet about the subject, the rest of Europe just don't care. And whats happened since the UK went Green, no more summers, heavy rain, record snowfall, there was none of this before Britain went green. Wake up Britain, your all be conned in the government's little game....

Wow another bin, no thank you I have one and that enough. Next the dumb council will be telling people to empty there own bins

When Alcock and his Liberal Democrat friends were in opposition, they campaigned against Labour's recycling proposals. Now they are claiming credit for their success.

next they'll be refusing to empty them because of idiotic excuses like the lids not shut or it was in the incorrect place.
they took 4 weeks to empty my recycle brown bin after xmas. even well after the snow had gone.

All those blighters who can't be bothered to recycle are costing the rest of us money. The greater weight recycled the less we pay in landfill tax. Pressure off the Council Tax. Whatever is recycled is sold on to be reused some how or other.
