Environment reaps benefit of money going to waste

Date published: 17 February 2010

Shaw’s Beal Hey Household Waste Centre has been revamped to improve the recycling facilities.

It has stayed open but improvements which began in October are now finished.

They include new line markings for on site direction and traffic flow to reduce waiting times, improved traffic management and better on-site direction.

CCTV with number plate recognition has also been installed together with a public information speaker system.

The work is part of the £631m worth of new facilities being carried out across Greater Manchester by Viridor Laing.

It is part of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority’s long-term recycling and waste management contract to boost recycling and recovery. Councillor Neil Swannick, chairman of the authority said: “When we consulted residents they told us they were keen to recycle more. This improved facility will contribute to achieving 50 per cent recycling and composting across Greater Manchester by 2015.”

errrrrrrrr anybody else know WHY they would need CCTV with numberplate recognition at a tip??

stinks of the council spying on does this......

New line markings, improved traffic management etc LOL, its full if four cars turn up at once!

Councillor Neil Swannick on a nice earner I bet, but I won’t be using it! Why should I do what I pay taxes for? And to add further insult to the broken science ‘Recycling will have no effect unless we reduce the population apparently.
