Crash cuts power to 12 homes
Date published: 17 February 2010
A DOZEN homes were left without power after a car crash brought down electricity cables and blocked a road in Scouthead.
A Land Rover Discovery collided with a parked Honda Jazz in heavy snow in Lower Turf Lane at 4pm yesterday. No-one was injured.
Police and United Utilities staff made the area safe and engineers were working overnight to repair the overhead power line.
A spokesman for United Utilities said: “The damage was quite extensive and we are having to replace the pole and the electricity cable itself.”
Power to all 12 homes was expected to be restored by mid-morning.
Resident Aileen Wood, who looks after her elderly mum, said heavy snow had made the roads horrendous.
She said: “There was such an almighty bang. A large 4x4 had gone into a post and caught a little red car coming up the road. They chopped the post in half and all the the cables were down. It was a right mess.”

Flake, If this had been a normal vehicle then you wouldn't have said a thing. It was an accident as simple as that. nothing said that they were charging round the area as if they were invincible.
I never suggested they were, merely that some owners do, 4x4 s appear to feature in a disproportionate number of accidents, and cause more damage when the are. The high centre of gravity means they are more difficult to control and the weight makes them more difficult to stop. Few owners appear to recognise this, hence the number of sccidents.
The Electric company are digging up the road & set up temporary traffic lights in Huddersfield Road in Austerlands, is that anything to do with this crash just a little bit up the road in Scouthead?
Flake, I can safely say the driver was not driving round thinking he was "invincible in the snow". There was ice on the road, and as L4ndy4ng3l correctly pointed out, it was a simple accident, backed up by the fact the police skidded on the ice when they turned up as well. I know this, because the guy you can see in the picture, is my father, the driver of the Disco. Annoyingly having just picked it up from passing it's MOT!
Have Your Say

Yet another 4x4 which has skidded and crashed, when will their owners learn that the Chelsea tractors are not as safe as other cars in poor conditions. Then there's the driving of some owners who seem to think they are invincible in the snow. You're not, in fact you're probably at more risk than others, especially when you can't stop.
