Traffic lights warning

Date published: 24 February 2010

MOTORISTS are urged to take extra care at the Elk Mill roundabout as the traffic lights are turned off.

Power supply problems are being investigated and warning signs have been posted at each junction.

Councillor Mark Alcock said: “What is crucial is that motorists please take extra caution when using this roundabout – and plan their journeys to anticipate possible traffic delays. This problem is also likely to have a knock-on effect on traffic for motorists using near-by wards and primary routes.

“When traffic lights fail, the road priority reverts back to a normal give-way system, so motorists should give way to traffic approaching from the right.”

The council does not have a definitive date when the problem will be fixed.

Leave the stupid things switched off and remove the rest from other roundabouts. Traffic is far better now at Elk me for me. They were another waste of money from Oldham council

Delays? What delays? Traffic moves far more smoothly now without the delays CAUSED by traffic lights. Keep them off, or even better do away with them. And don't even get me started on bus lanes....Two lanes of traffic shrunk to one is supposed to improve flow? Ridiculous. All it's done is push traffic onto the back streets and create a whole new set of rat runs.

What delays!!!All the way back to shaw road royton,THATS A DELAY eh Max me me me me

Thank you Mr Alcock for reminding me how to drive. I would never hqve known if you hadn't told me to give priority to the traffic on the right at a roundabout. Good job I did the IAM test !

I'm sure most drivers don't know what to do at a roundabout
Thank you Councillor Alcock for the lesson on the High Way Code.
I can now drive down there

wow that means traffic will move more. Alcok engage you very small brain before making comments on subjects that require throught

John C. Correct me if I am wrong but the lights were actually working at the Broadway (Royton) junction but were not working at the Chaddy Way junction the last time I went onto roundabout. Therefore this would not affect the traffic coming from Royton any more than usual. The flow from Chaddy Way was great, even tough we had to give way to the Royton trafic.Keeping the lights off on Chaddy Way seems to ease traffic flow.

Traffic is far better - you obviously haven't tried driving down Oldham Way at rush hour. It is a nightmare with traffic backing up to the Tesco Roundabout. I think it is disgraceful that the lights still haven't been fixed, how can it take more than 5 days to fix a set of traffic lights. Obviously no one from Oldham Council has to drive that way home of I am sure they would have been fixed a lot sooner!!!!!!!!!
