117 empty homes transformed
Date published: 03 March 2010
VITAL repair work has been carried out on 117 empty homes in a bid to ease the council house waiting list.
Properties in Roundthorn, Clarksfield and Glodwick are the latest to be refurbished.
The houses were bought by the council using Housing Market Renewal money and they have now been fully renovated by First Choice Homes which will also manage the properties.
Councillor John McCann, Cabinet member for community services and housing, said: “This has been an excellent example of partnership working between HMR, the council and FCHO. All seven homes have been refurbished to an excellent standard.
“I am delighted to say that already three of these homes are occupied by families that were in need.
“The other four are in the process of being let to other families threatened with homelessness.
“This is just the start and through continued partnership working and the effective empty homes strategy that is in place, it is hoped that we will be able to steadily bring more properties back into use.”
