Man held over cannabis factory

AROUND 500 cannabis plants have been seized in a raid on a terrace house in Failsworth.

A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with production of a controlled drug after police pounced at the house at 151 Old Road following a tip-off from the public.

The electricity supply had been tampered with, and an electricity company was called out to make it safe, and the area was sealed off to allow a police forensics team to work.

Neighbourhood police officer PC Andy Pickering, who was on the police team which spent around four hours dismantling the cannabis farm and removing the plants for incineration, commended the actions of the local community who alerted police.

He said: “We try to act on all information received, and we deal with all sources of information anonymously. I would urge members of the public to come forward to give us as much information as possible.

“This kind of activity has a wider issue — it leads to other crimes because people who use drugs go out to steal so they can pay for them.”

Prohibition!!!!! Cannabis is an ILLEGAL drug to sell or grow.
It is also illegal to smoke. I'm sick of seeing people smoking it like its a normal cigarette in the street. I hope it does push the price up if your that stupid to smoke it then you should pay the price... but i hope it rots your lungs!!

Canabis seems to have become as popular a drug as tobacco (thanks Mr Davies you did a great job there), but what's hardly ever talked about is the mental health problems it causes. A friends son now has schitzophrenia as a result, the dealer gave him crack hidden in the cannabis now he's hooked on that.
Cannabis is not a harmless indulgence, there's a hidden cost, the more these farms are discovered the better.

When I was over in the UK some 9 months ago I often noticed the whiff of cannabis as I passed people in the street. The ones who were smoking ranged from business types to hooded teenagers. No stereotypical smokers of 'de weed'.

But it's not a processed drug, it's a natural-growing plant. Making a plant illegal is like saying God made a mistake. The hop is a plant and is used in the manufacture of beer, which causes many more health, psychological and social problems than cannabis. Shall we illegalise the hop?
