News on the big screen

Date published: 09 March 2010

SHOPPERS will be kept up to date with the latest news thanks to a big screen in the town centre.

The 6ft screen will be put up at Tommyfield Market, facing down Albion Street.

Organisations such as Oldham College, Oldham Coliseum and University Campus Oldham will also be encouraged to use the screen.

If the pilot is successful other screens could be put up at sites across the borough.

Council leader Howard Sykes said: “Oldham is embracing change and the public broadcast screen will help the council to set out its vision for the borough as a place of choice, while keeping citizens informed of the latest news and ‘goings-on’ in their borough.”

So basically it will be like a big 6 ft version of the Oldham Chronicle. Only that it will be no doubt badly installed, constantly vandalised, and fall into dis-repair.

and Mr Sykes... how much?

Are there any shoppers left to watch it ? How much is *this* idea Clr Sykes?

What with 24hr news coverage on tv and radio I would have thought a TV screen in the town centre is the last thing we need. We need Shops,Shops and more Shops, then maybe, just maybe we might start to get the volume of shoppers the likes of Ashton and Huddersfield, get on a daily base, not just once a week.On second thoughts maybe playing back the council meeting on the TV could be a world wide comedy hit worth a fortune. Any one got Simon Cowles number!!!!!

It'd have to be a big screen if Cllr Sykes is on it.

Howard needs the big screen make over to cover up the fact his administration is looking like keystone cops

Please tell us how much this will cost the council tax payer?
