Pubs to open at 7am

EARLY risers will soon be able to get their coffee fix, their breakfast or even a pint as Wetherspoon pubs across the country open at 7am.

The chain has two Oldham pubs, Up Steps in High Street and Squire Knott in Yorkshire Street and will put the new opening hours into action from April 28.

Chairman Tim Martin, said the plan to extend morning trading would further increase growth in food and hot drinks sales, added: “We are about the second or third biggest coffee chain now, selling 25 million coffees a year and about half that number of breakfasts.

“I think by opening at 7am it will be a significant boost especially since in many of the towns and suburbs that we operate they don’t have other coffee chains open at that time.”

The Watford–based group is celebrating record profits and sales and paid out an average bonus of about 13 per cent of salary to all staff.

Get in? More likely they'll all 'fall out'

Very sensible use of premises with a change of use during licensing hours. Should prove very popular. Lock ins until breakfast anyone ;-)

This will really help tackle the binge drinking and alcoholism in Oldham won't it? What's the point of having initiatives to curb drink related problems in the town centre when they are constantly being undermined by things like this?

Fine, open for coffee and breakfast at 7.00am, but alcohol shouldn't be available until 12.00noon.

The only people who want a pint at 7.00am are people with a drink problem.

This ties in nicely with the schools opening that bit earlier, doesn't it?

There are enough with drink problems in and around the town centre (all day, let alone evening) without an extra 'welcome' for them as the sun rises.
