£150,000 project to revamp car park
Date published: 15 March 2010
A CRUMBLING Royton car park will get a £150,000 make over as part of a council refurbishment plan.
The Radcliffe Street car park will be resurfaced and new lighting will be installed.
Extensive landscaping work will also take place.
The revamp comes courtesy of the Gateways and Corridors programme, a £600,000 scheme aimed at improving the appearance of all major routes into Oldham.
Additional funding has been sourced from Royton, Shaw and Crompton District Partnership and a contribution from a local developer.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure said: “This work is very welcome, and complements other investments being made in Royton town centre and the planned deep-clean of Royton precinct.
“This work is designed to improve the attractiveness of Royton centre to shoppers, businesses and residents.”
Work will be done in phases where possible to keep disruption to a minimum for traders and shoppers and should be finished by the end of the month.

£150,000 torevamp a car park, but you can't give transport for our old folks to get to day care. hope some one feels the SHAME.
Isn't Alcock standing in Oldham West & Royton? Coincidence? How about spending this money on repairing the roads?
alcok trying to buy votes, sorry low grade material not required.
And we all know what will happen after the re-vamp something that they have wanted to do for years - charging.
Then there will be price rises
then the decline of the market as with Oldham
Oh and watch out Shaw - because you are next
