Baths revamp on hold
Date published: 16 March 2010
PLANNED refurbishment of Royton swimming pool has been postponed.
The pool, in Park Street, was set to be redeveloped in the autumn as part of the new Royton Wellbeing Centre, but work has been delayed due to the current economic climate.
Councillor John McCann, Cabinet member for community services and housing, said: “Royton Pool recently celebrated its 100th birthday and is still a popular facility.
“Regeneration of the pool is part of a wide-ranging review the council is carrying out of its whole leisure estate with interested parties and stakeholders.”

i was going to say the same thin Max!
why has work been delayed? in the current economic climate construction firms are doing work for almost nothing to secure themselves! the current material and labour costs are at an all time low! surely this is actually the time to be getting this work done!
maybe also with the council starting projects off like this it will also be helping kickstart the regeneration ideas around the borough as well as countrywide!
Is this the same current economic climate that encouraged the great and the good to have their Marriott meeting, rather than use local facilities! Hope someone's got the costings right on this Wellbeing centre, unlike the Chadderton debacle!!
What they really mean is that they have spent well above their budget with the chadderton centre.....yet another brilliant decision by the council! so the people of royton will have to wait again.
Cannot help noticing that Saddleworth Pool got a re-vamp, new Fitness Centre and floodlit pitches and Shaw & Crompton got a Fitness Suite as well as the announcement of a Health and Wellbeing centre for Shaw..................All before they run out of money for Royton’s promised replacement Pool
Roll on May 6th
