Danger dogs are seized in raids

Date published: 18 March 2010

FIVE dangerous dogs have been seized by police in two raids in Oldham.

The pit bull-type breeds were taken from houses in Brewerton Road, Clarksfield, and Calderbrook Way, Glodwick, following concerns from residents about illegal dogs.

The operation was carried out by police and RSPCA officers.

Two men aged 18 and 20 have been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act and have been bailed until May 6.

Sgt Trevor Harrison said: “Concerns have been raised by our community and where we have information that people are keeping or breeding dangerous dogs that are illegal we will act.”

People with concerns about illegal dogs in Oldham should contact Greater Manchester Police on 0161-872 5050 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Drug dealers choice of weapon

And what, may I ask, will the penalty be if they are found guilty? Pitt bulls were more or less an unknown breed not long ago, now we appear to be riddled with them.

It seems to me that it is usually the owners who are the danger, rather than the dogs.
