Bobbies on foot patrol for charity
Date published: 15 April 2010
BOBBIES will be pounding the beat in Oldham this weekend — for charity.
More than 20 officers and staff, along with mascot Constable Cub, are taking part in a 20-mile walk across the borough to raise money for Help for Heroes and Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
The walk starts at 10am on Saturday from Oldham Police Station. Fundraisers will pass through each neighbourhood, stopping at local police stations, to collect donations.
Organiser, PCSO Rhiannon Ashworth, said: “This event is a great way to raise money for two worthy causes, both of which are close to the hearts of many officers, staff and members of our community.
For anyone who would like to support the officers doing the walk by donating, contact PCSO Rhiannon Ashworth 0161-856 8903.

Nice touch. Good cause. But - it would be nice to see some more Bobbies on the beat for locals at all times.
Have Your Say

Any efforts to raise money for these worthy charities in such straitened times is to be lauded. Isn't it Bloody ironic though, that our local bobbies will achieve this by walking 20 miles around the borough? Every time we ask for bobbies to walk the streets of the borough as part of their job, we get absolutely nowhere. I trust local guides will be on hand to direct our finest down the mean streets. 20 miles, eh! I hope they know what they are letting themselves in for.
