Residents bid to halt traffic chaos
Date published: 15 April 2010
Concerned Delph residents are being encouraged to unite next week in the aim of putting an end to the traffic chaos that the village suffers daily.
Councillor Ken Hulme has arranged a meeting, to be held at Delph Band Club on Monday for locals to discuss possible solutions to combat increasingly dangerous traffic blackspots in the village.
He said: “People have approached me and told me that near Millgate and the library they are taking their lives into their own hands trying to negotiate the traffic.
“Lorries are coming up on pavements, cars are speeding through the village and people feel like they are being told by the council that they just have to live with it — but something has to be done.”
All are welcome to thrash out any suggestions aiming to improve the traffic woes at the meeting starting at 8pm.

Its not a problem specific to Delph. Shaw has seen a huge increase of traffic over the last few years,Littlewoods,HDNL,JD Williams and now the Asda store.I too have received a similar response from Oldham council whilst bringing the Jubilee bend to their attention. Until lives are lost it would appear the council are unwilling to acknowledge any traffic blackspots even when there is obvious damage to footpaths by HGV's.
Traffic safety is an issue that is evident in most areas of the borough however the problem is polarized on certain roads, streets and junctions etc...
At least the residents of Delph appear to be interested in trying to do something to resolve the problem - good luck!
