Police chief makes arrest
Date published: 13 May 2010
Oldham’s police chief Tim Forber swung into action when a man armed with a knife dashed across George Square in the town centre yesterday.
The chief superintendent was with Oldham PC Jonathan Bott buying a sandwich at a shop only yards from Oldham Police Station when they spotted the man wielding a 6in kitchen knife.
Both officers wrestled him to the ground.
The 33-year-old was arrested, taken to the Barn Street police station and charged with a racially aggravated public-order offence and carrying an offensive weapon.
He was due to appear at Oldham Magistrates Court this morning.

Outcast you need to come into the real world. It does not matter if the officers were on their own time or on Police Time police officers are deemed to be on duty at all times when any offence is seen by them to being committed.
Actions of this kind really speak well of the man who is the head of the GMP in the Oldham Area,WELL DONE Tim Forber.
BTW I am a retired Copper
POLICE CHIEF DID NOT MAKE ARREST!, it was PC Jonathan Bott that made the arrest, glory seeking graduate 'police chief' merely assisted a long serving police officer to restrain the criminal. Lets get the story right, from the people that know the facts.
linda bott: Do I sense a family connection here?
I can only imagine that such comments will make life interesting for the officers involved.
For me, it doesn't matter who made the arrest -what does matter is that some half-whit with a knife was taken off the street, which may have prevented a serious incident!

Hope he was on his own time when buying his butty otherwise I think that the IPCC should take at look at this.
