We’ll keep a welcome in the roadside

Wales Street residents are all backing... England!

THEY may live on Wales Street but there’s no doubt about who these Watersheddings footie fans want to win the World Cup.

The neighbours clubbed together to raise £300 to deck their street in St George’s cross flags before England’s first game against the USA on Saturday. The patriotic bunch, who decorated their houses in similar style for the 2006 World Cup, have even installed England Street signs on walls and lamp-posts.

Organiser Chris Farrand, who has lived on Wales Street for 15 years, said: “Everyone was really up for getting involved and contributing money to make sure we could make a really good display. I bought 500 metres of bunting from eBay and 30 flags. There is a really good community spirit on Wales Street and we are all very sociable. We all drink at the Wellington in Ripponden Road so that is where we’ll be watching the game on Saturday.

“If England get to the final we are planning on blocking the street off and having a big party.”
