800 meet Academy’s new head

Date published: 15 June 2010

HUNDREDS of parents and pupils turned out in force to meet the new principal of the Waterhead Academy, — which is due to replace Breeze Hill and Counthill schools in September.

Close to 800 parents packed into the halls of Breeze Hill and Counthill schools along with many pupils to meet David Yates and hear of the progress on the Academy project.

Mr Yates talked about the plans for the curriculum, the uniform, the school day and the new term dates.

Parents also received a presentation from the lead architect from Willmott Dixon responsible for designing the new building for Waterhead.

Mr Yates said: “I am delighted to see so many parents attending these sessions at both Breeze Hill and Counthill schools.

“I believe my key role is to ensure three things for our new Academy: to make sure all pupils have the opportunity to be happy, be safe and be successful and achieve their full potential.

“Meeting parents and understanding their aspirations for our Academy is very important and something I am committed to continue with further parents meetings already in the diary.”

how can the new waterhead academy replace breezehill and counthill in sept? its not even been past planning permission stage properly yet.
surely this is sept 2011.
unless its some really impressive new form of highspeed construction that will only take a couple of months to build?

The schools will be called an Acaemy from Sept 2010 but kept apart til the new monstrosity is built in Waterhead ATM the archeologists are on the Orb MIll site carrying out on of the obligatory surveys but it is a done deal anyway. I won't be the only one to look at selling up when that happens

fedupoldhamer, one day the academy will be in its own unified building, but the two existing buildings/schools can work together on common themes before then. Check the link to the website.

@JMTS, don't forget that there's not enough space on the chosen site so the playing fields at Counthill are being retained and the kids bussed there for sport. How brilliant is that? Whoever came up with that idea is a genius don't you think?

Wow can't wait to see the traffic STOPPED on huddersfield road or has jmts got a solution

Is it simply a 'Lack of Planning Committee' rather than a 'Planning Committee'?

Actually Prodriver, the academy site at Waterhead has the same footprint as Bluecoat - the borough's best-performing and most over-subscribed school.
