Sling your hook, it’s summer party time!

Date published: 26 July 2010

REVELLERS enjoyed a street party in the sun after a travelling camp packed up and fled in the nick of time.

Organisers of the Groundwork street party feared the event would have to be cancelled when travellers descended on land next to the environment centre in Higginshaw Lane.

But the council issued an enforcement order which meant the travellers had to pack up their belongings and leave with just hours to spare.

Families were then able to enjoy a bouncy castle, stilt races, balloon modelling and a Caribbean barbecue.

If they had stayed, you may have been able to get cheap pegs and your fortune told.

They have not gone far. They are now ensconced at Brushes Clough on Crompton moor, Shaw. Currently racing illegal quad bikes around the moor. Oh well, another clean up bill to add to my council tax.
