Date published: 30/07/2010
The band of travellers who parked their caravans in Pingot Quarry, Shaw, earlier this week have moved on to the George Street playing fields half-a-mile away.

And will no doubt leave the same amount of rubbish as they did at Brushes clough quarry (not pingot quarry as reported)
I must say the council and the police did a wonderful job off moving the travellers off george st playing fields.there
response was really positive and they were gone by thursday lunch time.Well done the council and the polce.
Hopefully the Police and the council will continue to harrass them day to day whilst they are within the borough.
travellers do not care where they pitch up camp but as soon as they arrive they go as they are a nuisance
Would be interesting to read the local area crime reports over the past few days. I know of two thefts of motor vehicle and a burglary. Anyone add to this?
Have Your Say

We often hear the argument from travellers that there isn't enough sites to accomodate them. But the flip side is that the site in Oldham was abused by them insofar that it was a hotbed of stolen goods, cars etc. A friend of mine whose car was stolen was told it was at the travellers site which resulted in verbal abuse from children to a few punches and kicks when he went to pick it up. The point I'm getting at is that travellers do not want to integrate even when offered a site.
