19-year-old killed as bike hits lamp-post

MOVING tributes have been paid to a teenager who died when a moped hit a lamp-post.

Adam Mitchell (19), of Old Lane, Chadderton, suffered serious head and body injuries in the smash at nearby Granby Street Playing Fields on Sunday. He died at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Around 20 bouquets have been left at the scene with tributes to the former Radclyffe School pupil who studied joinery and carpentry at Oldham College.

A second man suffered minor leg injuries in the collision which happened at 5.20pm.

Seven men have been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and have been bailed.

Ten police cars are believed to have attended the scene.

Terrible thing and my thoughts are with the family but these moped drivers are a law to themselves!
They regularly over take me and im a white van man!
I think they beleive they are invincible and unfortunately this proves otherwise. lets hope other moped drivers learn from this.

r.i.p adam mate i am still in shock about it i was only speaking to you the night before it happend. You was the best lad that come out of chadderton and always had a smile on your face and made every one else smile well r.i.p mate up there good night god bless

It is a terrible thing that this accident happened. However it should be noted that where this actually happend is not a road it is a well lit public FOOTPATH and we regularly hears kids riding mopeds, and scambler motorbikes down there at all hours of the day and night. Maybe just maybe it will put em off doing it but I very much doubt it. He shouldnt have been riding his moped there in the first place.

Almost every motor biker I see on the road thinks its a race track, disobey the highway code and constantly think that rules don't apply, let this be a lesson to those other bikers. its a death to many. thoughts with the family.
