FORMER Hathershaw Technical High School pupils travelled thousands of miles to witness the school band perform in full for the first time in more than 30 years.

Old friends and band members who attended the school from 1955 to 1966, reunited at a bash at St Anne’s Rugby Club, Higginshaw.

Two members of the band Technique travelled from Canada to help deliver the show-stopping performance for one night only.

The dance-floor was overflowing as the original members, now aged between 60 and 70, delivered a hefty wedge of nostalgia belting out the sounds of the Sixties.

The performance was the culmination of a year of planning for organisers, who were thrilled with the 250 people who travelled to make the night a storming success.

Organiser and former pupil, John Watts, said: “Nobody knew what to expect but when the band struck up it was fantastic.

“People had come from America, Switzerland and Majorca especially for the event. It couldn’t have gone better.”

The celebration managed to raise £3,750 for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
