STUDENT Amy Gavin has landed a bad-girl role in the TV teen soap “Hollyoaks”.

The 18-year-old, from Springhead, is set for her small screen debut later this month playing Fern in the Channel Four drama.

Amy secured the part after a three-stage audition process.

The former Ashton Sixth Form College student managed to juggle her busy filming schedule with studying for her A-Levels and is excited about joining the cast.

She said: “I just love ‘Hollyoaks’ and I am ecstatic about landing this part.

“Everyone on set has been amazing and they are all genuinely nice, normal people.

“It was really strange at first because I only knew them all by their character names! I have done a lot of stage performing over the years but television acting is very different.

“I have learnt a lot in the transition, for instance, if you cry on stage you have to be very dramatic and exaggerate your movements, but on television it is a lot more subtle.”

Amy plays lesbian Fern in the soap, whose bullying ways she says are totally different to her own caring personality.

Her character will appear in both “Hollyoaks” and the more risque mini-series, “After Dark” later this month.

Amy, who always knew she wanted to act, attended performance workshops with acting coach David Johnson, where she was spotted by a casting agent from Scream Management.

Amy said: “I had only been with Scream for a month when I landed the role in ‘Hollyoaks’ and it was great timing for me to get this part.”

Amy follows in the footsteps of Oldham-born actors and former “Hollyoaks” stars Ricky Whittle, who played Calvin Valentine, Dominique Jackson, who played Calvin’s younger sister Lauren Valentine, and her on screen boy friend Barry “Newt” Newton, who was played by Nico Mirallegro.

Tracey Bell, founder of Scream Management said: “Amy is hugely talented and we are sure this will be the start of a successful career for her.”
