Student’s tweet sparks political row
Date published: 13 February 2012
AN Oldham student is at the centre of a political row after he tweeted that he saw MP Aidan Burley behaving disrespectfully during a trip to Aushwitz.
Matt Parkinson of Oldham Sixth-Form College tweeted that the Conservative — sacked as a parliamentary private secretary after pictures were printed of him at a Nazi stag party — was “texting and dozing” during a talk given by a Holocaust survivor.
Mr Burley apologised after the Nazi incident and said he would go to Aushwitz to learn about the atrocities. Mr Parkinson was there at the same time, on a college trip.
The issue was raised in the House of Commons by MP Ian Austins but he was told it was a matter for the party, not for the Government.
James Smith, chairman of the Holocaust centre, said he was sitting next to Mr Burley and while he did respond to a text, he would have noticed if the MP had been asleep.

obviously mr parkinson wasnt paying attention either to the talk as he was more interested in mr burleys antics.
Think the same as I do or I'll throw my toys out of the pram! the usual reaction of the intolerant left. Dress in a manner I consider acceptable i.e. no joke nazi uniforms, but if anyone dares complain about the wearing of the Jilbab I'll be on my soapbox aiming to get them criminalised.
The double standards of the left are truly sickening, we have found ourselves in a situation akin to the Inqisition finding heretics, or the denouncing of witches. It has to stop before life becomes intolerabl
Spot on `Flake' !!! ........
Why did Mr Parkinson feel it was appropriate to make a political point? Only a politico would know who Mr Burley was. However If this is the same OSFC college trip to Aushwitz which they have been doing for a number of years then what Mr Parkinson failed to mention was that he was accompanied if I am right with a serving Labour Manchester City Councillor. What a silly boy!
Have Your Say

It would have been common good manners to have turned off his phone in that situation. It was rude and disrespectful to have kept it on.
