Children injured in wire trap
Date published: 25 July 2012
A POLICE probe has been launched after two children were injured when they cycled into wire strung deliberately across a bike track.
Three youngsters were cycling between Daisy Nook and Park Bridge when they struck the wire on Sunday.
One boy was cut across the throat. Another injured the back of his neck after ducking to avoid the wire at the last moment., while the third was uninjured.
The children’s parents called police.
Police Community Support Officer Lewis Baistoll-Davis is warning cyclists in the area to be extra vigilant.
“We are taking this matter very seriously and have put out crime reports for assault.
“This could be a one off, or it could be somebody out for vengeance.
“Places like this path are dark and very badly lit. You often get youths hanging about there and playing tricks.
“Someone put this wire there knowing it would cause an injury.
“This is an ongoing investigation and we are going out on to the path during the day to speak to cyclists and warn them to keep an eye out, and to ask them to warn others.”
